If regularization cannot be done, there is no alternative to a special general convention: Gururaj Ghimire [Interview]

Ghimire says - A lot depends on what the decision and conclusion of the Central Working Committee is. The working style and decisions adopted by the Central Working Committee will determine it. We want a general convention within the four-year time frame - whether regular or special.

Nepali Congress youth leader Gururaj Ghimire Gen-G says that it is not natural for the Congress to hold a general convention within two months when there has been so much upheaval in the country in 24 hours.

In the current situation where the party is discussing whether to hold a general convention before the elections or not, an edited excerpt from a conversation with young leader Ghimire:-

The establishment party is not in favor of any kind of general convention. In such a situation, what will happen to the special general convention as you have demanded?

A lot depends on the decision and conclusion of the Central Working Committee. The working style and decisions adopted by the Central Working Committee will determine it. We want a general convention within the four-year time limit - whether regular or special.

However, it has also been clear from the 'counter' proposal of Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav in the Central Working Committee. How will you move forward now?

Looking at what the founding party has presented and the proposals that have come forward, they cannot be seen in favor of any. The proposal of the Joint General Secretary in the Central Working Committee is a proposal that has been brought outside the jurisdiction against the statute and established norms. I had a phone conversation with Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka about it this morning. He has already called the Joint General Secretary's proposal a personal proposal. If the General Secretary's proposal is passed, there is no need to call a special general convention. However, if the proposal is not passed, there is a legal provision to call a special general convention compulsorily.

If the majority does not take the process of the special general convention forward, what other option do you have?

Looking at the current state of mind, it does not seem that this will be done. Most of the speakers speaking in the meeting are moving in the direction of holding the general convention before the election. We are optimistic - the general convention will be held within the time limit. If not regular, then special. There is no alternative to this.

If the Central Working Committee does not move in the direction of taking the process forward, will you call a meeting yourself?

The Central Working Committee cannot sit without making a decision. The special general convention is legal and binding. It cannot be held after the election, it cannot be postponed. If that happens, we are also discussing that option. There may be a situation where the signatories themselves call it. But, we haven't thought about that yet.
