Unity with CPN-S will lead to the disintegration of the Maoist movement: Janardan Sharma

The decision to unify the parties has created tension between the Maoists and the Unified Socialists. Maoist leader Janardan Sharma has expressed a different opinion in writing after the two parties decided to unify, while respected Unified Socialist leader Jhalanath Khanal and General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal have held separate meetings.

The Unified Socialist Party has taken a policy decision to unite with the Maoists on Friday itself. The Maoists' central secretariat meeting held on Saturday also decided to finalize the unity with the Unified Socialist Party, CPN-Socialist, Jana Samajwadi Party, Nepal Samajwadi Party and Nepal Communist Party (Chiran Pun) group.

In this context, Janardan Sharma spoke to Kantipur for Ganga BC

Why do you disagree with the Maoists' decision to unite with the Unified Socialist Party and other parties?

I disagreed because they are going to unite by leaving the Maoist identity. The Central Committee had decided to hold a general convention and select the leadership competitively. An attempt has been made to unite to circumvent this. This unity will not strengthen our party life. The Maoist movement will move towards disintegration. Instead, we should go for a broad left unity.

Isn't unity also happening among the left parties?

Not one or two, but broad left unity is necessary. Unity without thought cannot be achieved. Going for party unity for the personal interests of the leader is against the spirit of the movement.

We have waged a people's war against the right-wing policy of the UML. The Maoists have been promoted by saying that the UML-Maoist unity was ruined. Therefore, the unity that is being said to happen now will harm the party in the long run.

Bringing in other parties from outside will benefit the leadership, not the party. It will weaken the revolutionary current and strengthen right-wing opportunism. Reorganization and unity of the entire communist movement is absolutely necessary. This surrender sought in the name of unity will further weaken the party.

If the party decision is not changed, will you form another party?

It is not possible to carry a burden in the name of unity against the spirit of the Gen-G movement. I have requested to launch a large-scale left campaign. I will raise the issue at the Central Committee meeting on 17 Kartik. We have a responsibility to fulfill the spirit of the people's war, the families of martyrs, and other sacrifices. We will advise you on how to move forward.

Have you started collaborating with the General Secretary of the Unified Socialist Party, Ghanshyam Bhusal, and the General Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party, Netra Bikram Chand?

All are in discussions within their respective parties. Discussions are underway.

There are accusations from within the party that you are moving forward in an anarchic and apolitical manner, right?

They say anarchy when they are right about forming a party. They like it when it comes to personal benefits. Hasty unity may fulfill the personal interests of some leaders, but it will bring adverse results for the general communist movement. Unity without proper homework and ideological clarity will be harmful in the long run.
