Government is ready to conduct fair and rigged elections: Minister of Communications [Interview]

What you should know

The interim government has set the date for the election on February 21. Within the political parties, the confusion is prolonged due to the lack of clarity in the ideological approach of how to deal with the dissolution of parliament, the formation of an interim government and the election announcement.

It is not seen that the government has a formal dialogue with the political parties. In this context, Kantipur's brief conversation with Information Technology and Communication Minister Jagdish Kharel:

The interim government has been formed for the elections, how are the preparations?

This government was formed for the purpose of holding elections. The 'stakeholder' of the election is also the political party. The date of election has been fixed on February 21 when the government was formed by President Ramchandra Paudel. The main mandate of the government is to maintain good governance, control corruption and hand over power to the elected government within a specified period. The government is also responsible for investigating the loss of property during the

movement and the use of force during the Gen-G movement. The government has been given the responsibility of relief and rehabilitation in the flood disaster. The government has succeeded in doing good work with the help of the citizens during the weather disaster.

After forming a small-sized cabinet, discussions are ongoing with the Election Commission. Since the President formed the government on a certain date, the government is working in coordination with the Election Commission. The government is ready to hold free, fair and rigged elections. Both the Election Commission and the government are preparing from their respective places.

The dialogue with the political parties is not seen to be formal, is something happening informally?

Government understands that all political parties and Nepali people are ready for elections. The Election Commission has given time to the missing voters and youth to register their names. This has created an election atmosphere.

The government has brought ordinances and amended some laws to ensure that citizens who are eligible to vote are not deprived and to create an environment for voting. A study is being done to give the right to vote to those living abroad. All the preparations to be done by the government have progressed gradually. The government believes that the political parties are also working in the same way.

Election Commission has to take a leadership, it has already taken. The government is also preparing for that. Everyone will participate in the election, the government will create that kind of environment.
