We are not for the division of the party, but what path will the party take in the harsh political situation and how will the demands and aspirations of the Genji movement be met? We talked about the special convention to discuss what kind of leadership to move forward. The way forward should be decided so that the workers can answer to the people.

The Gen-G movement on 23rd and 24th of August displaced the strong power of Congress and UML, as well as the dissolution of Parliament and the date of new elections has been set, there is intense pressure on the Congress General Minister Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma to change the leadership immediately. Leader Shekhar Koirala is also in favor of immediate leadership change. But Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba is not immediately in favor of the convention.
Koirala and the youth leaders close to the General Minister have started a campaign to collect signatures for a special convention saying that policy and leadership should be changed immediately. A brief conversation with Gururaj Ghimire, an active youth leader in conducting the signature collection campaign:
Why are you demanding a special convention when a regular convention should be held?
regular convention is not possible. Because there are many processes left for that. If the regular convention was to be held in November 2008, preparations should have started a year earlier. Even if we start from fast track, it is not possible within 6 months . Active membership renewals and new distributions are pending, as are ward conventions and overseas public relations committee conventions. The political situation after August 23 and 24 can no longer be handled by Taltule solution .
Did our policies and decisions lead to this situation? Are we responsible for ourselves? A discussion on the subject is necessary . On the other hand, the tenure of party officials and members is ending from next November. A special convention is needed to discuss these issues in depth. According to Article 17(2) of the Constitution, a special convention can be convened by the central working committee itself or with the signature of 40 percent of convention delegates.
There is an example of calling a special convention once in the year 2014. The present national situation, the question of corruption and misrule. We have a question about not being able to protect democracy and the constitution. It is necessary to discuss these and other issues. There is no option for a special convention for that.
There is also an argument that a regular convention can be held within November even if the provisions of the statute are suspended, and there is no need for a special convention, isn't it?
If a regular convention is to be held, the delegates of the 14th convention must be legally bound to vote. It can be done by suspending the article that is a hindrance to the convention by referring to the transitional situation . For that, the party leadership and the central working committee had to have the will power.
Will the special convention be only to change the leadership, will other agendas also be included ?
How to move forward in the current political situation? How did this situation come about? Are our policies, practices or characters responsible for this? Will the government hold elections or not? What do ordinary leaders and activists say about this matter? What will be the policy of the party now? What will our working style be? All these are discussed. A special convention changes both leadership and policy and sets the way forward. How far has the
signature campaign gone?
Officially announce our signature campaign from the Reporters Club on Monday . There was some technical delay in preparation of agenda and form for signature . It is starting across the country from Wednesday. Has brought a new movement . We are planning to register a petition in the central working committee after obtaining forty percent signatures before Kojagrat Poornima.
Can you get the forty percent of signatures needed to call the convention?
We estimate that not 40 percent, but two-thirds. Even if not, sixty percent will be cut .
Will Chief Minister Gagan Thapa and Shekhar Koirala come together or have different views on this issue? There is no difference of opinion on the
idea . Shekhar Dai is also in favor that the central working committee should decide and call a special convention. We also think that it would be better if the central working committee decided and called. But, if you don't call, we have signed forty percent for your convenience, so it's easy to say call now .
The signature campaign for the special convention has been called an attempt to split the party, what do you say?
This is wrong. We are not for the division of the party, what path will the party take in the harsh political situation and how will the demands and aspirations of the Genji movement be addressed? We have talked about the special convention to discuss what kind of leadership to move forward. What is the reason for the current situation? Who is responsible for our policies, practices or character? Answers to such questions should be sought through the Congress. Workers should decide the way forward so that they can answer to the people.
