Three months after being removed from the post of Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, who left for a trip to the Gulf, reached Bahrain and told about the Bright Nepal campaign he is about to start.
Kulman, who reached Bahrain on June 18 and returned to Nepal after a 14-day journey through UAE, Oman and Qatar, had a more informal than formal dialogue with the Nepali workers. During the trip, Kulman heard one question the most, and that was, will he enter politics ? If they come, how? Kantipur Correspondent Home Karki has asked Kulman, who arrived at the studio in Kantipur after returning from the Gulf, about this topic. :
You went to Bahrain, UAE, Oman and Qatar, the major employment destinations of Nepali, and directly interacted with Nepali workers. Why did you find this dialogue necessary?
A large youth population of Nepal is working in the Gulf region. I wanted to experience the life struggle and experience there. I was eager to understand the reality there. What kind of jobs are Nepalis involved in? I want to understand what problems there are. The meeting there was fruitful. I found a difference between what I understood and reality . They were able to exchange their experiences with the workers, businessmen, and intellectuals there.
For the last two decades, the strong relationship between Nepal and the Gulf region has been intertwined with employment . About 1.5 million Nepalis are working now. What difference do you notice between the bay you hear and the one you see?
I found very different from what I was hearing . There was only too much listening to the problem. It was said that there is only struggle. I got the good side too . Professionally, skilled Nepali people are involved in many places . Doctors, engineers, pilots, professors have a strong presence of Nepalese in all fields. I found that it is working well at the labor level as well . About 50 percent of the remittances coming to Nepal come from the Gulf. There are also
problems. When I met my friends from the camp, I felt disgusted with Nepal. If there is prosperity and progress in the Gulf, why not in Nepal? It was also seen that there are different problems of the workers who went on visit visa and labor visa . Some of the problems are related to employment. Some of the problems are related to the policy taken by Nepal. Why has the number of visitors increased? The government should think about issues such as how Nepalis can be brought into legalization. The embassy is not able to address all the problems due to the lack of human resources . It seems that a lot of resources and manpower should be given to it.
Many workers were happy to meet you in Bahrain and Oman . Similar enthusiasm was seen in the UAE and Qatar. How does it affect you ?
Wherever I went, I got a very good response . I got a good response from all the Nepali workers and business community. It excited me . But when will they return? I was saddened to hear that I was not sure what to do when I came back. Their frustration over how many years they will stay here is real. They say that there is no guarantee that they will return to Nepal and get employment. He says there is no environment to do business. Should there be reform in Nepal? Had to move forward towards prosperity ? He said that jobs had to be created. It has been suggested that you should proceed.
You announced the launch of the Bright Nepal campaign from Bahrain. It was seen that many workers were confused whether this campaign was a political or a social movement. What kind of campaign is this in particular? How does it proceed ?
We have started the Bright Nepal campaign from Bahrain so that we can all join in the Bright Nepal campaign . It's not just the light of the lamp. This is a campaign for prosperity, employment, good governance and to remove the darkness in every area and make it bright. It draws a blueprint for prosperity in every sector.
is a campaign to move forward with a vision and a plan. Many people took it as a sign that they wanted to start a party. Rather than that, it should be understood as a campaign of prosperity. I am not saying that nothing has happened in Nepal so far. A lot has happened. There were many political and social changes. Thanking those who have contributed so far, we will now create an environment for employment of the young manpower in the country for the prosperity of Nepal. We have a campaign to move forward with a big roadmap for the prosperity of the country. It can also lead to leadership . There is no light without leadership . Let's add it all .
A detailed blueprint has been made to advance this campaign ?
We have made a kind of concept letter. We are further modifying it . We are making a digital platform to connect everyone. Work is being done to connect it systematically and take suggestions. A website is being prepared by making a campaign to take our plans and programs into discussion.
Can you tell the blueprint of Nepal's prosperity that you have seen?
now is not the time to tell the whole thing . Priority has been given to how we advance in the energy sector to bring prosperity to Nepal. I have also met Nepalese who have been working in the Gulf for 40 years. According to their experience, the history of the development of the Gulf region can be seen in 25-30 years. Until a few years ago, there was a poorer country than us. The prosperity of the Gulf is linked to the development of the energy sector. It seems that the Gulf has changed after the arrival of rulers who can give the right leadership to the energy sector.
The energy sector is the heart of the country's prosperity. The energy field touches the entire field . Then there is great potential for tourism. Tourism is the main part of Dubai's economy. Nepal is natural beauty. Change can also be done through agriculture . Green economy is the complete change of Nepal. We can give hydropower to the industrial sector . Our greatest asset is our manpower . We can use knowledge and labor properly. Remittances can be used for hydropower. From where we can bring prosperity very quickly . You have to have faith in the leadership.
How does trust in leadership develop?
The biggest topic is related to governance. If the issue of wrongdoing comes to the people, they will not believe it. Connects with another delivery . People are watching to see if the delivery has been made even on general issues . A little bit of good work has helped.
As soon as the right person is placed in the right place, trust in the leadership will increase . A country with a vision on the right track It is necessary to show good governance that it is going. Along with that belief, vision is also needed. A lot of work has been done at the political level in Nepal. However, the leadership of development should have been approached in a different way, but that did not happen. Complaints towards the leadership have increased because they could not give economic change to the common people.
Bright Nepal campaign is what can we plan and program for the complete transformation of Nepal ? What can we do to maintain good governance? We have taken forward this campaign thinking of changing the whole area . Leadership that can implement it will be necessary. It also becomes a means of pressure.
If good leadership is born in different political parties, that is also an asset. This does not mean that the party should be opened and moved forward! In the role of leadership, we should draw a blueprint for prosperity and advance the subject of good governance, and even within this, rather than let young leaders go forward with a blueprint, leadership can also be born from within. It can also be a means of generating leadership . That does not mean that the party should be opened now and move forward .
Most of the workers who meet you are suggesting not to join any party in the by-election of the House of Representatives that is going to be held in October. Some even said that they want to see the new party you lead . What is your answer to these questions?
Change is not possible just by one MP or person reaching a place. I don't think that I can make a big difference as an MP in the current situation . Many people expected and hoped that I would have come. However, I have not consulted and discussed with anyone . It didn't even come that it had to be done.
Being a member of parliament was not a big deal . Even if he becomes a minister, it is not a big deal . That kind of environment will not be created until the leadership changes in the entire system . Let's wake up everyone to change the country, let's put pressure on everyone, instead of moving forward by personally becoming an MP or a minister. And my campaign is to create that kind of leadership.
