Kathmandu Valley has been ranked first in the list of the world's most polluted cities for the past few days. Every day last week, Kathmandu remained at the top of the list of polluted cities, but no initiative has been taken by the government to control it.

While for the past 17 years, it has been collecting pollution charges at the rate of 50 paisa per liter for selling petrol and diesel. So far, 25 billion 396 million have been collected from consumers. The government itself is unaware of where this budget will go and how it will be spent. In this context, a brief conversation with environmentalist Bhushan Tuladhar for Kantipur Raju Chaudhary :

The amount of air pollution has increased tremendously in the last one week . What is the reason for this?

The main reason for the increase in pollution is fires. The wind did not blow, it did not even rain . The government has not given much priority to fire control. Another reason is transportation . The smoke coming out of the vehicle is . But the government has not checked the smoke . This is the reason why pollution is increasing.

How can air pollution in the valley be minimized? What are the remedies?

The first thing is public awareness. There is still a possibility of fire, identifying the potential area and removing the leaves there. It can be controlled immediately with the local level and community. 90 percent of the fires spread due to human-caused fires. Awareness, training, equipment can be given to the masses.

The state has charged more than 25 billion rupees to control pollution ? But why is it not being able to spend in related areas?

The government did not prioritize. Couldn't make a plan on what to spend it on. The government has brought Air Quality Management Action Plan-2076 in Kathmandu Valley, if it is fully implemented, pollution can be controlled and electric vehicles can be promoted. The amount can also be spent on tree plantation . There is a policy to promote greening, but there is no will power to do it .

Can the pollution seen in the valley be controlled immediately?

is not impossible. The federal government cannot do it alone. The province should move forward by cooperating with the private sector along with the local level. Firewood, firewood burning in house/home should be controlled . The alternative of coal in the industrial sector should be added to the use of electricity. Air pollution can be reduced if traffic, house, factory smoke can be controlled.
