A conversation with Sreezya Kafle, a student who won a medal and prize for getting the best results in MA Economics at the 50th Golden Convocation of Trivi.

How was the experience of being a gold medalist with the best results?

is a happy moment for me . It was my dream. This gold medal is an inspiration for me to complete other remaining goals. Exchange this happiness with family first . Everyone was happy. My happiness increased. As soon as I saw the name in Gorkhapatra for the first time, I got emotional. I didn't expect my name to come like that . There are some tips on how to read

, remember what you read, and prepare for the exam.

We should not study only for exams. The internal number also counts . There were tom papers and assignments. I used to work very hard in these works too . Whether it is number 2, whether it is number 10 . I used to give hundred percent. I had a habit of studying for the exam only by understanding. Never read by heart . Used to understand the concepts. If I can understand, I put it on the side and read it again in one go . I could never read the same subject continuously . If I read

micro-economy for two hours, then I used to read another subject . For me, I had to read and write. If you don't write down what you read, you forget it. After reading and understanding, I would start writing . There is a lot of theory in economics. You have to make a figure . One may be similar to the other and may cause confusion . Many principles are read at once. First, it should be introduced and charts should be made. Must be able to explain it . This is enough for writing and exam preparation. Read science on

plus two. The choice of those who study science subjects is usually towards doctor, engineer . Why were you drawn to economics?

Ever since I was studying at school, I had said that I would study science later. Even if I study biology in science, I can go for both doctor and engineer . My area also seemed to expand . While studying, the age also increased . I didn't want to be a doctor. I didn't want to read the subject that was not working. I don't just read . Have fun too. He was admitted to the Pulchok campus to study engineering. There was not much desire. He passed but before that he had already enrolled in BBA. My sister also studied BBA . He showed the possibility of BBA and advised him to study it . He said to study in KU . Read the same. Chose economics subject. I started to specialize in that. It was a very enjoyable study as economics is also used in our daily life. Economics is connected to the country from the small family. Had an interesting experience while reading it.

Why did you choose the first and oldest Tribhuvan University?

My schooling was from St. Merritt to St. Xavier . I have been studying in private schools and colleges. I didn't get the chosen subject in Kathmandu University to do MA in Economics . Business economics has only just begun there. I didn't want to wait. There was no question of keeping a gap in education . Studying in TU is good. I heard that there might be an administrative problem. I felt a little sad, but after knowing that the economics of TU is good, I didn't think about anything else. Enrolled in TU. There were problems. The class could not continue. There was also covid. I also felt like I had been admitted for nothing . Education does not advance. There is no exam. TU should not be blamed. Also with covid . Online classes also took place. This is also a positive thing . Although there were some problems, the experience was good.

Got a degree from the University. Overall, how is the curriculum, teaching style, examination system, and research?

When I studied at two universities, I found a difference . In Kathmandu University, everything was in order . Looking at research, TU has a lot of potential. I also got international exposure there . I got exposure to be published in an international journal . That is a great achievement. So TU is very good for research .

faculties are also very helpful. I say very well. But the intensity is not seen in TU . Policy research has to be done in economics. If you are interested in other fields, you have to do an internship for 3 months. I didn't get that . It would have been an experience. I did it on my own. If that arrangement was in the university, students could have benefited . That seemed insufficient. Didn't get a chance to work with think tanks. It was even more mandatory in economics. The university can do that work together with the government. Source is also . It would be even better if it could be done at the national level. Even in the

course, it would have been better if the questions in the exam were asked about hair. You should also practice asking the question papers practically. More than just the matter of theory, we have to move forward from that . The course should also be designed in the same way. Although the syllabus is good, TU should change the question paper making . It is also up to the students to make the education educational. From the time I was in school, I got used to painting, dancing, and music. Every school should think about that in addition to education. 

What kids like . That should be chosen. Our school had scouts and bands. The student went wherever he liked. Schools should be designed in the same way. Students should be able to choose the future in the subject and field they like. Students should be given the opportunity to choose from the school whether they will go towards music or study or choose something else .

Received an academic degree from the Central Department of TU . What did you find attractive there?

It was fun to see him reading while sleeping on the ground, even in the garden . Seeing people reading everywhere was an inspiration for me too. Only those who read and write can be found everywhere from the library. Faculties are always encouraging to move forward. If someone is interested in research, I also found a facilitating environment. As soon as you go inside the premises of the University, there is an atmosphere that motivates you to study . It's not the kind of thing that's small. What students look for is faculty support . I got that from the university. I thought it was a beautiful aspect that they gave a lot of time after having problems in studying and understanding.

Lately, many students have started going abroad. Especially the quality of Nepal's education is not the reason why they went for a safe future?

doesn't seem to be quality in Nepal. You can pass the exams outside with the degree here. It does not mean that the certificate here is useless. When I or someone else goes to study abroad, what I study there means that I will pass the exam there . Therefore, it does not mean that studying here will not work .

Nepal's education system is preparing students who can compete internationally. But there is not much opportunity here . After getting at least a degree, you have to get a job! If not, why get a degree ? Spending time and money on education is ultimately to earn income. This is also the principle of economics. But if they don't find a platform to earn here, students go abroad. It is lacking in Nepal.

What are your suggestions for improving education?

is being taught on the basis of very old syllabus. Course must be changed . In TU exam, question paper will be repeated, answer sheet will be lost . This is gross negligence. The future of students should not be played with. Education and examination is a sensitive subject . It should be controlled . The culprit should also be punished . Last year's question was repeated in our Vatch too. Who is responsible for that? Should be punished . Not taking action despite such carelessness means that whatever happens is what happened.  If

TU is to be improved, it must be done . You should also be able to do activities that connect students with jobs. An environment should be created to give opportunities to students.
