Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Youth and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has called on students facing any harassment or abuse to register a complaint.
He made the call by making the student safety and harassment reporting form public on social media on Wednesday. ‘The Ministry of Education adopts a zero-tolerance policy against any kind of abuse and exploitation in educational institutions. Taking any kind of harassment or abuse faced by students studying at school, plus two and university levels seriously, this special mechanism has been launched to directly hear such complaints and take immediate legal and administrative action,’ he wrote on his Facebook page.
Education Minister Pokharel said that student complaints and grievances will be kept confidential and safe. ‘We are committed to keeping the identity of the victim or the person providing information completely confidential and safe, and all students are cordially invited to provide their details without hesitation,’ he said. He said that active participation and cooperation are expected in the government's campaign to create a safe educational environment. The Google Doc form he made public states, 'You can submit this form anonymously. Your identity will not be asked and it will be kept strictly confidential. The information provided will be used only for policy improvement and necessary action to ensure a safe educational environment.' Those who feel unsafe and threatened are asked to contact local authorities.
