The first convocation ceremony of Gandaki University, established by the Gandaki Province Government, is scheduled to be held on Chaitra 12. The university has stated that all preparations for the ceremony to be held on the premises of the university in Malmul, Pokhara-32 have been completed.
According to the information given at a press conference held on Wednesday, a total of 44 students from three different academic programs will be convocation at the ceremony. Of these, 11 are from Bachelor in Sports Management (BSM), 18 are from Bachelor in Information Technology (BIT) and 15 are from B.Pharma. Senior educationist Professor Kedar Bhakta Mathema will participate in the ceremony as the chief convocation speaker.
University Chancellor Indra Prasad Tiwari said that this ceremony will prove to be a milestone for the institutional development of the university. ‘This convocation ceremony is a symbol of our university’s academic excellence and legal management,’ he said, ‘We have succeeded in creating a unique identity in higher education in Gandaki Province in a short time.’
Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Convocation Ceremony Committee Krishna Raj Adhikari informed that five sub-committees have been formed to make the first convocation dignified and transparent. ‘We have completed all the preparations as per the Gandaki University Convocation Ceremony Procedure 2082,’ he said, ‘One person who achieves excellent results will be awarded the Chancellor’s Medal and three people, one from each program, will be awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal.’
The university has also prescribed a mandatory ‘dress code’ for the convocation ceremony. For men, a daurasuruwal or pant-coat and a bhadgaon with a cap, and for women, a sari-cholo and a coat have been prescribed. Convocation students will have to wear the gown, scarf and cap provided by the university.
Established as Nepal's first provincial university in 2076, this institution currently has 750 students studying in 6 programs. The university aims to start additional doctoral and master's level programs in the near future. At the press conference, it was informed that the university has also recently started the 'Gandaki Research Program' and is emphasizing research.
