Lumbini Buddhist University is set to launch a program in drone, aviation, and operations management for the first time in Nepal.

The university has launched a Master in Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Aviation and Operations Management (UAS) targeting students who want to build a career in helicopter companies, airlines and other sectors.

Associate Professor Basant Poudel informed that this course has been prepared so that anyone who has studied any subject can study it. According to him, students who have scored 2 GPA or 50 percent marks in any faculty will be able to study it.

This course, which will be taught in 60 credit hours, will take two years to complete and will cost Rs 400,000, according to the university. The college is preparing to enroll a maximum of 35 students and teach them at the School of Development Studies and Applied Sciences, Devdaha Campus. Basnet also informed that interested students can apply through the university's website. The last date for application has been set for March 28, 2026.

Through this program focused on aviation and unmanned aircraft systems, students will gain practical knowledge of modern technology, said Prabin Bhattarai, a member of the course development committee. ‘Through this program, a cyber-secure unmanned aircraft system can be developed in Nepal,’ he said, ‘which can be used by the army and other security agencies and will help in data security.’

The university has stated that since this course has been prepared with the involvement of experts from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, France, India, China and Thailand, students will have global employment opportunities. In addition, since international experts will teach, students will also gain international-level experience.

‘This course, which is being launched for the first time in Nepal, has also been collaborated with international partner organizations,’ said Poudel, ‘according to which students will be able to build careers in surveying, manufacturing, tourism, rescue and disaster management, security, research and development, among other fields after their studies, along with the opportunity to do internships abroad. ’
