The Center for Education and Human Resource Development has sought proposals from local levels regarding community schools that wish to merge with each other.

The government has put forward a policy and program to merge community schools. Arrangements have also been made to provide grants to schools that will be integrated as per the program. Director Hari Prasad Aryal said that the center has sought proposals as per the same program and arrangement.

The government has set a goal in its policy and program and budget statement for the fiscal year 2082/083 to make school education accessible, quality and useful for life. In which, a long-term governance reform roadmap for school education will be prepared and a policy was put forward to merge schools based on the need by remapping schools based on the number of teachers and students, geographical distance, and transportation facilities. The budget mentioned that incentive grants will be provided for such schools.

The government has a program to integrate, adjust and restructure schools with low student numbers in community schools. The goal is to convert the teacher posts that have been maintained after the restructuring into lower secondary and secondary level posts. There is data that there is an excess of teacher posts at the primary level and a shortage in junior secondary and upper secondary schools. The center has sought proposals from schools that were adjusted from 1st July 2082 to mid-Falgun 2082 and that have decided to adjust at the beginning of the academic session 2083. The proposal should be sent by mid-Falgun.

The proposal should mention the data of schools within the local level, teacher-student ratio, geographical location, and accessibility facilities. It has been asked to submit a list of schools identified for school adjustment, the physical infrastructure of the school to be built after the adjustment, structure, teacher posts, consent of parents, community, school management committee, necessary budget, and resource management. The center has circularized all 753 local levels and all 77 education development and coordination units to submit the proposal.

There are 27,298 community schools across the country. Of these, 15,272 schools have less than 100 students. There are 9,704 schools with 500 students. Similarly, there are 1,636 schools with 1,000 students. There are 449 schools with 1,500 students. There are 136 schools with up to 2,000 students and 100 schools with more than 2,000 students.
