2,209 students graduate from Kathmandu University

A total of 2,209 students were inducted into the university at the 31st Convocation (First Phase) 2082 held on Wednesday. Of these, 196 are foreign students from 17 countries.

2,209 students have graduated from Kathmandu University.

In the 31st Convocation (First Phase) 2082, held on Wednesday, 2,209 students of the university were inducted. Of these, 196 are foreign students from 17 countries. 

83 from the School of Arts, 294 from the School of Education, 340 from the School of Engineering, 36 from the School of Law, 378 from the School of Management, 881 from the School of Medical Sciences and 197 from the School of Science were inducted in the ceremony. 

Among the inductees, there are 7 PhD, DM and MCh levels, 397 postgraduates, 50 PGD levels and 1,728 undergraduates. 52.24 percent (1,154) are male and 47.76 percent (1,055) are female. 

Among the graduates, 196 are foreigners from 17 countries including Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Britain, India, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Namibia, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, the United States and Vietnam.

Addressing the ceremony, Kathmandu University Chancellor and Prime Minister Sushila Karki said that there is a need to improve higher education in Nepal. She said, ‘Along with increased investment, depoliticization of higher education is a pressing need of the hour. We have taken some concrete steps after realizing that unnecessary partisan interference in educational administration has continuously affected the higher education sector of Nepal.’

Kathmandu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle said that KU is preparing to bring the secretariat of the Himalayan University Consortium under its control. According to him, the secretariat of the Himalayan Universities Consortium, a network of more than 100 universities in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region and beyond, is being transferred and established at KU. He said that the university is confident that this will further strengthen KU's internationalization campaign and take research to new heights.  

Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi Prof. Shantishree Dhulipudi Pandit said that continuous learning and adaptability are the main foundations of a person's long-term development and success. While the knowledge certified by a degree is only a momentary state,  she said that real learning is a lifelong process. 

The ceremony organized under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and Chancellor Karki was attended by Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Pro-Chancellor Mahavir Pun and Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Professor Shantishree Dhulipudi Pandit.
