Chancellor and Prime Minister Sushila Karki has nominated a former judge and member of the National Innovation Center to the Senate, the supreme body of Tribhuvan University.

Former Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai has been nominated in the academician category. Similarly, Giriraj Tripathi, a member of the National Innovation Center established by Vice-Chancellor and Education Minister Mahabir Pun, has also been nominated as a member of the assembly. Tripathi is the head of the Central Department of Biotechnology at TU.

There is a provision for the Chancellor to nominate members of the assembly on the recommendation of the TU Executive Council. The TU Act provides for a 49-member assembly. The assembly has the authority to formulate policies and regulations of TU.

Earlier, Chancellor and Education Minister Pun had nominated two members of the Innovation Center as members of the assembly of Nepal Open University. The university has stated that Tripathi and Professor Rameshwor Adhikari, associate professors of TU, have been nominated as members. Both of them are board members of the Innovation Center. While he was the head of TU's Applied Science and Technology Research (Ricast), Adhikari had provided Pun with the use of TU's land to establish the Innovation Center.

TU has called an assembly on Mangsir 10 to pass the policy and program. Before that, vacant assembly members were nominated, TU has stated. On behalf of the vice-chancellors of other universities, Nepal University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Arjun Karki has been elected as an assembly member.

On behalf of the students, TU Central Campus Self-Union President Deepak Raj Joshi and Prithvi Narayan Campus Self-Union President Bishnu Pokharel have been nominated. They were elected to the Self-Union from the Nepali Students' Union and the Nepali Students' Union last Chaitra.

Ganga KC, Head of the Central Department of Anthropology, Umesh Kumar Mandal, Head of the Central Department of Geography, Yagyaraj Giri, Head of the Damak Multiple Campus, and Kabita Luintel, Head of the Bhaktapur Multiple Campus, have also been nominated as members. The term of the nominated members is set to be 2 years.

Last Ashar, TU had passed the budget without a policy program. The assembly was called to pass the policies and programs that were stalled under the direction of the then Chancellor KP Sharma Oli. Members have criticized the provision that members should be informed of the agenda 15 days before the meeting, but this was not done.
