Expressing dissatisfaction with the school education bill, the Nepal Teachers' Federation staged a sit-in at the party office of the CPN Unified Samajwadi Party in Koteshwar on Sunday. The federation is staging a sit-in at the party's office as part of the first phase of the movement program, demanding that the bill submitted to the House of Representatives along with the report from the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee be amended.
As part of which, on Sunday, the office bearers along with the president of the Federation, Lakshmi Kishor Subedi, staged a dharna at Samajwadi's office in Koteshwar. Last week they staged a dharna at the Congress, UML and Maoist center party offices.
Similarly, President Subedi said that 753 representatives of the Federation have submitted a memorandum of sit-in at the local level. According to the federation, a sit-in program was conducted for two hours at the local level, district-based education development coordination unit and party offices. If the demand is not met by the 21st, the federation has been warning that it will hold a second stage of disruptive protest.
On the 9th of last year, the Federation submitted a letter of attention with a demand letter to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Education Minister Raghuji Pant, UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bertaula, Maoist Center National Assembly Chief Whip Gopi Achami.
Similarly, Chairman Subedi said that he has also submitted a letter of attention to the United Socialist Party, National Independent Party, National Democratic Party, Janmat Party, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Democratic Socialist Party, Janata Samajwadi Party and Civil Liberation Party. The Federation has stated that the provisions of the School Education Bill, which transfer teacher posts to the local level, are unacceptable.
There is a demand of the federation that the post should remain within the federation. The bill demands that 75 percent of temporary teachers should be made permanent from within, and it is mentioned that 60 percent should be made from within. It is demanded that the amount given to the temporary teachers under the golden handshake should be deducted, permanent teachers should be promoted periodically, and the calculation of the temporary service period should be done in the bill.
Federation has also expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangement of departmental action against teachers. There is a demand that the position and salary of the school staff should be ensured, and the position and service facilities of child teachers should be arranged . Similarly, it is mentioned in the demand letter that the service facilities of private school teachers should be ensured, the trade union rights of private schools should be ensured, and the education council should be arranged.
The Federation of Teachers held a demonstration in Kathmandu Central from 15th Baisakh for 29 days on the subject of the School Education Bill.
