The teachers' federation has announced a strike with a warning to close schools expressing disagreement over the transfer of teacher posts and other arrangements.
Disagreeing with the school education bill, the Nepal Teachers' Federation has started a protest since Monday, while the protest of private school administrators has been going on for five days.
Private school operators have demonstrated in Maitighar to Baneshwar area. They protested by tying black belts. They have demanded that private schools should be gradually made non-profit and the provisions of the bill to give full scholarships to 10 to 15 percent students should be removed. The bill has been passed by the Committee on Education, Health and Information Technology and submitted to the House of Representatives. If the demand is not met, they have warned that they will close the school after August 12 and protest.
Similarly, the teachers' federation has started a movement drawing the attention of the political party's whips. The protest was announced in disagreement with various provisions of the bill, including the transfer of teacher posts to the local level. 75 percent of temporary teachers should be made permanent from within, permanent teachers should be periodically promoted, etc.
If the demand is not met, the teacher's federation has also warned that the school will be closed and protested from August 21. In the first phase, programs such as submission of memorandums, encirclement and other programs have been announced in the municipality, district, state and center.
