National Independent Party MP Sumana Shrestha has demanded to write in the bill that schools and universities cannot be closed for any reason.
She made this demand while speaking at the meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee held at Singha Darbar on Thursday. On Wednesday, the committee's report on the School Education Bill, 2080 was discussed. Speaking in the discussion, she said that it should be written in the bill that no one can lock or close schools and universities.
Drawing attention to the fact that it is mentioned in the bill that teachers cannot go on strike, she said that this provision should also be written for private schools.
She said, 'The issue of who closes schools and universities should end. No one can lock or close schools, universities. No one can violate the fundamental rights of students, for whatever reason. We have written that we cannot go on strike in the case of teachers. But that should be written for private schools as well. Schools should not be closed under any pretext.'
MP Shrestha also said that everyone should get compulsory free education as prescribed.
