Israel's Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Ari Bas has met with Minister of Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Pant. In the meeting, it is said that there was a discussion about re-running the internship program for Nepali agricultural students in Israel.
On that occasion, Minister Pant praised Israel's support to Nepal at various stages from the past to the present. Ambassador Bass informed about the project which has been in operation since 2001.
So far, more than four thousand Nepali agricultural students have gone to Israel to gain experience in agriculture through this program and some of them have made a significant contribution to Nepal's agricultural sector after returning from Israel.
After the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, Nepali students were banned from going to Israel. Ambassador Bash said that if this procedural delay continues, about 1,000 agricultural interns who can advance Nepal's agriculture will lose their opportunity.
He asked the Ministry of Education to help by giving instructions to register students in the university on time and allow them to go to Israel.
In this regard, the Ministry of Education has clarified that there is no obstacle to the return of students to Israel for internships. The ministry has also proposed to increase the quota in the coming year to meet the shortfall. Based on the reply received from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the two positive reports received from the Nepali Ambassador to Israel about the security situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a notice to continue the process of going to Israel as the security situation in Israel has normalized.
All relevant bodies have been requested to speed up the student registration process, inform the students about it and coordinate with the university. On the occasion, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education Shiv Kumar Sapkota and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also participated.
