The Nepal Students Union has demanded the immediate release of the Education Act. Dujang Sherpa, president of the association, issued a press release on Tuesday and demanded the government to issue the Education Act.

Although there is a written agreement between the Government of Nepal, the Federation of Teachers and the agitating parties to issue the School Education Bill, 2080 within this June 15, the students' union alleges that it is very regrettable and irresponsible that the law has not been enacted. The Union has mentioned that the delay in publicizing the education bill is the height of irresponsibility of the government and political parties. The statement said, 'Government's indifference to a far-reaching issue like education is a matter of serious concern.'

Although the Constitution of Nepal stipulates that education up to secondary level is free and compulsory, the conflicting situation of two different education systems has been created due to the different fee system between institutional and community schools.

Sangh has suggested that 100% open competition in the selection of teachers in the school education act, recognition of ECD facilitators as teachers, 'golden handshake' relief package for temporary and relief teachers, increasing the dignity, capacity and service facilities of teachers, provision of technology-friendly, scientific and quality education system.

The union has warned that if the school education law is not issued immediately, it will be forced to go on strike.
