Govinda Koirala, President of Trichandra Campus, has written to Chancellor and Prime Minister KP Oli saying that the existing system of keeping only two presidents of independent student union in the university assembly is flawed.
At present, there is a trend of having only two members of the Swaviyu president in the university assembly. But it is not clear how those two presidents are chosen and how they can represent all the Swaviyu presidents across the country.
President Koirala has demanded that the choice of two people to represent the university assembly should be made through open competition or some method of election. He also said that there is no rule, selection system or procedure regarding the representation in the University Student Welfare Council and it should be corrected.
President Koirala has also complained to the Prime Minister that he has requested information from the University Information Division about the nominations to be held in the University Assembly, but has not received any reply. In the letter addressed to Chancellor Oli, it is written, 'The absence of a formal and democratic process in a sensitive matter such as representation in the Trivi Sabha is irresponsible and tragic.'
President Koirala has also mentioned in the letter that if no decision is reached on this matter, the presidents of Swaviyu will be forced to take legal and court action.
