Madhyabindu Municipality located in East Nawalparasi has implemented 'Our Happy Curriculum' and started teaching at the basic level.

Madhyabindu has become the first municipality to start the implementation of the happy curriculum in Delhi, India. The Local Government Operation Act has empowered the local level to create and implement local curriculum. Accordingly, Mayor Bhimalal Adhikari informed that 'Our Happy Curriculum' has been implemented as a local curriculum.

He said that the curriculum implemented from July 2081 for classes 1 to 8 had a practical and positive effect on students, parents and teachers. The curriculum has been prepared covering human values, behavior, nature, culture, customs etc.

In 65 public and private schools within the municipality, 30 minutes of reading on the subject is held every day at the first bell. The Gandaki state government has also included the course in the Chief Minister's Innovation Program. Education, Science and Technology Minister Vidya Bhattarai launched the course in the first week of August 2081.

During the visit to Delhi, the mayor officer said that he was impressed by the curriculum and implemented it. Before creating the curriculum, a team of representatives of the municipality, along with teachers, also visited schools in Delhi. According to the municipality, the curriculum has been prepared after discussions and studies at various stages with experts including teachers.

After the implementation of the curriculum by Madhyabindu, the local levels of Kaski, Syangja and other districts have also shown interest in 'our happy curriculum'. The mayor officer said that the curriculum was implemented with the aim of preparing good, alert, moral and honest citizens.

'Children are taught to be good citizens right from class 1 . "The curriculum has been set to teach the art that will make students happy practically rather than theoretically," he said. For

students, there is no textbook for our happy curriculum. A manual book has been prepared for teachers according to the syllabus. Resource teachers have been selected to teach the subject in the school.

Chief Deputy Secretary of the Education Division, Padmaraj Acharya said that according to the National Curriculum Format, 2076, 'Our Happy Curriculum' has been set as a local curriculum. He said that the course will help children develop knowledge, skills, human values, habits, behavior, behavior change and positive thinking. It has been arranged that there will be no examination and evaluation of that subject.

The municipality has also established a curriculum development and research center to assess the state of curriculum implementation. Lakshmi Pandey, the program coordinator of 'Our Happy Curriculum', said that the students and parents have demanded to implement it in classes 9-10 as well, saying that it has a positive effect on children from class 1 to 8.

Earlier, although the municipality had implemented the local curriculum of ``Our Middle Point'', it is said that ``Our Happiness'' curriculum has been implemented as a supplement. Local levels across the country have been creating and implementing customized local curriculum.
