1,129 students have been initiated in the second phase of the 30th convocation ceremony of Kathmandu University. They were awarded the degrees at the convocation ceremony held at the university's central campus, Dhulikhel on Friday.
Prime Minister and Chancellor of the University KP Sharma Oli awarded gold medals to the students who achieved the best results in the ceremony. Congratulating and wishing the students who received Dixit and gold medals, he urged them to put the education they received from the university into practice. "Make proper use of the education received in the university, use it in the field of innovation," he said, "Always do positive work for the country and society."
Students need practical education along with theoretical education, he said. "Now is the time to put the knowledge acquired in the university into practice," he said. Therefore, practicality and practical education are essential, he mentioned.
Kathmandu University (KU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Achyut Wagle complained that the state has not yet properly evaluated the contribution made by KU in Nepal's higher education. According to him, KU has been developing culture of research and innovation by preventing thousands of talents from migrating abroad every year. But plans such as commercial production of green hydrogen, making KU a 'national center of excellence', and developing it as a fully English-medium international education center have not received the expected resources and support from the state.
Vice-Chancellor Wagle mentioned that despite the complete institutional preparation and repeated requests, the attention of the state has not been received, and urged to give priority to higher education. According to him, leadership is not just a decision-making process, but also respect for humanity, understanding of personal experience, and showing deep empathy while serving. In the second phase of the convocation ceremony, 1,129 students from different 6 schools of the university were initiated. According to the university, there are 554 women and 575 men among them.
Among the initiated students, 32 are of PhD, DM and MCH level, 69 are MPhil, 513 are postgraduate, 4 are PGD and 511 are graduate. Out of which 118 international students from Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka and Maldives have been initiated.
