Activists along with the elected president of Swaviyu from the ruling Congress-aligned Navy Union vandalized the Tribhuvan University Vice-Chancellor's office on Wednesday. Acting Vice-Chancellor Khadg KC went to the University Teaching Hospital when a group of students came and ransacked the office, the staff said.
The students have also posted a statement after the vandalism. In which the names of Swaviyu President Bhupishwari Air, who won as a candidate of the Navy Association in Padmakanya Campus, Rohit Kapali, the elected president of the Navy Association in Patan Campus, etc. are mentioned.
The vice-chancellor's office said that a group of 15/20 people including Swaviyu president Pukar Parajuli of Bhaktapur campus, Bhuvan Ojha of New Union of Sankardev campus, Santosh Shrestha of Public Youth, Muskanraj Gautam of Saraswati campus, Madanraj Upadhyay, Rohit Parajuli, etc. The staff said that furniture such as chairs, tables and glass were damaged due to vandalism in the Vice Chancellor's office.
The students have been demanding that the admissions of undergraduate and postgraduate levels, which were stopped last February, should be opened for the Swaviyu elections. University sources said that disgruntled students vandalized the university saying that the admission was not opened. In the statement, it has been alleged that the right of the students to be admitted after the elections of Swaviyu has been taken away. Trivi has said that this year's admission has been postponed according to the academic calendar rather than due to the election.
Vice-Chancellor KC said that as per the calendar, the students who have been admitted since last August have also submitted the exam application form, so admission cannot be opened again for this year . The University has issued a calendar and set a policy of admission, teaching, conducting examinations and publishing the results only at the specified time . Officials say that examination and results cannot be published on time while taking student admissions.
