Education, Science and Technology Minister Raghuji Pant said that there should be an environment where the private sector can invest from schools to higher education. He said that in an open society, the system for investing in education should also be open.
In the policy debate on the dimensions of higher education organized by the Education Department of the Nepali Congress on Monday in Kathmandu, he said that the system of investment should be kept open while regulating the educational institutions run by private investment.
International practice is also the same as Education Minister Pant said. "Private investment should be opened from schools to higher education," he said, "an environment for investment should be created by regulating the private sector."
He said that the main challenge at present is how to sustain Nepali young students in the country. He said that educational institutions should focus on preparing students who are competitive at the global level. He asked the experts to give suggestions on conducting higher education programs in Nepal in collaboration with foreign universities.
He also promised that academic autonomy will be maintained by saying that he will not interfere in the university. "I have come to understand that after being a minister in the field of education, no plan has been made to do the same. I am still in the process of studying,' Minister Pant said, 'I do not want to interfere in the university. I am in favor of academic autonomy.'
He said that officials including the vice-chancellor should pay attention to building and improving the university. He said that the government will regulate the university. "Opening a university in the west and dividing the relationship in the east should not be done," said Education Minister Pant.
He pointed out that the country needs an education policy that will work for at least 10/15 years. "The current education policy is in conflict with the laws and regulations. Congress, UML, Maoist and other parties should have an education department and what kind of education policy should be made. Make a common opinion and suggest," he said.
