Humla district has been declared a literate district. Humla was declared a literate district on Friday after the literacy rate of 96.4 percent of citizens in the age group of 15 to 60 years was met.

Head of Social Development Office Humla, Hark Bahadur Basnet, said that out of 35,354 people in the age group of 15-60 years, 33,954 people are literate. Humla is the eighth literate district of Karnali state.

According to the data of Education Development and Coordination Unit Humla, 1,440 people are still illiterate, 192 in Adanchuli, 66 in Tanjakot Rural Municipality, 192 in Chankheli, 314 in Sarkegad, 194 in Kharpunath, 371 in Headquarters Simkot and 111 in Namkha Rural Municipality. Kalikot and Dolpa districts of Karnali province are yet to be declared literate.
