Employees and teachers of Solukhumbu's Sotang Rural Municipality have to enroll their children in government schools compulsorily.
According to the policy and program passed by the rural municipality in the year 2081/82, it has issued a circular to all types of employees and teachers to enroll their children in public schools. Sridhwaj Rai, Acting Chief Administrative Officer of the Rural Municipality, issued a public notice on Sunday and said that in order to improve the quality of public schools and also to make government schools responsible, the admission of employees' children to private schools has been banned.
Municipal Chairman Khilraj Basnet said that the local government has reached such a decision saying that when government employees enroll children in private schools by paying expensive fees, the local government has lost the trust of parents towards public schools.
"We have to increase the quality of government schools at any cost, we have reached this decision to provide free quality education to the children of all people," President Basnet told Kantipur. According to him, organized Kinder Garden classes under Class 1 have been put into operation in all public schools.
Similarly, President Basnet said that teaching in English medium has been started in all schools up to class 3 and within the next year it will be taught in English medium up to class 5. The municipality said that action will be taken against teachers/employees who do not enroll children in public schools.
