Due to the negligence of the Election Committee, the independent student union (SWAVIU) election of Prithvi Narayan Campus in Pokhara has become uncertain. The election became uncertain due to the controversy that started after the name of Milan Sunar, who was the candidate for the post of president from Aneraswaviyu (6th), was omitted from the ballot paper.
On Tuesday evening, 7 student organizations locked the election officer's office. After this, the election committee postponed the election until further notice is published. Aneraswaviyu, Akhil (Socialist), Aneraswaviyu (Sixth), Naya Shakti Vidyarthi Union, Aneraswaviyu Krantikari (Majority), Aneraswaviyu (Revolutionary Vaidya) have demanded the resignation of the campus head and election committee.
The election committee and the campus head have not reached a decision on how to remove the obstruction of the election. Election Committee Coordinator Prof. Pokharel said that a decision will be made about the election by Wednesday evening. We discussed with the political party in the morning. After discussing with the students, a solution will come out by evening," he said.
Campus head Prof. Hariprasad Pathak insisted on creating an environment for the election by discussing with the students. He said that the issue of conducting elections will be discussed in the meeting and what to do further will be known after the meeting. We will hold a meeting with the student organization and discuss that topic (reshuffling of the election committee). The election committee will call a meeting today, Prof. Pathak said.
Although the election atmosphere was positive until the polling day, it is not certain whether the election will be held this time due to an error in the ballot paper. Voting could not start on Tuesday after it was found that there was no bracket to mark the name of the presidential candidate Sunar. The election committee had requested the presidential candidate Sunar to proceed with the process even though there was no bracket. He rejected the proposal saying it was a serious mistake. After this, the ballot paper was published again. The election committee postponed the election for Wednesday due to self-criticism of the mistake. The election committee postponed the election process indefinitely by issuing another notice on Tuesday night.
Milan Sunar, the candidate for the post of president from Akhil (sixth), said that the election process will not be allowed to proceed because they do not have confidence in the current election committee. There are brackets in the sample ballot. We thought it would be on the main ballot as well. Later the gentlemen came looking for me. I said no," he said. "Our demand is that the election committee should be dissolved and a new committee should be formed. It does not mean that the election should not be held.
Election Officer Prof. Ramchandra Pokharel used discriminatory words in an all-party meeting on March 1. After the objections of Dalit community students and other organizations participating in the meeting, he apologized through a statement on that day. He used discriminatory words in the all-party meeting. After the election officer apologized that the election should be held, he said that the election should not be held because the Dalits are the leaders,' President Sunar added, 'It was seen on the ballot paper that it was done on purpose.'
