The Center for Education and Human Resource Development will establish and operate Megha Kitchen in one municipality of 7 provinces to provide mid-day meals to students.

According to the center, Biratnagar Metropolitan Municipality of Morang, Janakpur Sub Metropolitan Municipality of Dhanusha, Hetaunda Sub Metropolitan Municipality of Makwanpur, Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality of Kaski, Ghorahi Sub Metropolitan Municipality of Dang, Virendranagar Municipality of Surkhet and Dhangadhi Sub Metropolitan Municipality of Kailali have been selected for establishment and operation of Mega Kitchen. Shanti Bista, the official of the center, said that a budget of 50 lakhs has been sent to these local levels to establish a mega kitchen.

In the policy and program of the financial year 2081/082, it was announced that the lunch program would be modified to provide nutritious, fresh and quality lunch to school students. In the budget, it is mentioned that arrangements will be made to conduct the mega kitchen program according to the concept of integrated kitchen at one/one local level in all 7 provinces . At present, the government has been providing funds at the rate of 15 rupees per day to feed children up to class 5 mid-day meals in schools. 

Mega Kitchen aims to feed children from all over the local level with meals based on local products in a unified system. The center has also released the procedure of the program related to the establishment and operation of mega kitchens . According to the procedure, arrangements for centralized lunch supply should be made through local and/or leading schools within the ward. The selected local level had committed to the location of the mega kitchen program, the number of students to be provided with lunch, the manpower and transportation arrangements for making lunch, the method and process of making local, clean and nutritious lunch.
