Chancellor of Nepal University

Chancellor of Nepal University Dr. Bindu Nath Lohani has been selected. According to the university, Lohani was selected as the chancellor at the first meeting of the protection council held in Kathmandu.

His tenure will be 4 years. In the Nepal University Act 2081, there is a provision to have a Board of Trustees as the highest governing body. For the first time, the Federal Parliament approved the Act last October, with the provision that the Prime Minister and the Chancellor will be made apart from the Minister of Education.

It is mentioned in the press release issued by the university that Lohani was selected according to the provisions of the Act that the chancellor is selected from among the nominated members of the protection council.

Lohani, who has been the vice-chairman of the Asian Development Bank, completed his graduation in civil engineering with a gold medal from the Birla Institute of Technology in India in 1970.

He received his master's degree in civil engineering from the University of North Carolina in the US in 1974 and a master's degree in environmental technology and management from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok in 1977. 

He started his professional life from the civil service of the Government of Nepal and worked as a professor at the Asian Institute of Technology for 30 years in various important positions at the Asian Development Bank. Nepal University is preparing for establishment and operation after the passing of the Act. Preparations are underway to operate a university in Nawalparasi area.
