Campaign to change public schools

A decade has passed since the construction of remote public school buildings. Many did not believe that this fuche would do more than build a school building. We have been working to change the condition of the school by improving the physical infrastructure of the school as well as the educational quality.

Now many people know me as the youth volunteer who gets and sustains every child in school .

Born in Sankhuwasabha, I entered Kathmandu to study. I am also the first person in the family to get higher education. I completed a plus two from Venezuela on scholarship, a bachelor's degree from America and a master's degree in management from China . From school to higher education, I got the opportunity to study with scholarship and support. Education has made my life change possible. I have decided to devote my life to the field of education.

If I had not had the opportunity to come to Kathmandu and study school, I would have been a worker like my brothers in the Gulf countries. Education has changed my future and the angle of my life . I have been constantly working to change that education should be good first for the development of the country . My aim is that even if young people go abroad tomorrow, they will be able to read and write. Young people with knowledge and skills go abroad for employment and the income source is more.

We have been working to improve basic community schools in poor condition. After returning to Nepal after completing Plus Two at the age of 17, we introduced the concept of free private school. It was enough for parents who teach children in school to donate two days of labor to the agricultural farm established by the same group. At the same time, the friends started the work of educational activities by establishing Dialo Foundation. During the earthquake, more than 3,000 temporary classrooms were built across the country.

It was already known how weak the condition of education in Nepal is. I was able to see and understand more directly during the earthquake. When I was only 23/24 . The zeal and enthusiasm that education can be transformed came immediately. Soon after, the journey to improve the quality of government schools in rural areas was started by opening an organization called United World School Nepal (UWS). There is an upcoming plan to support the transformation of community schools in more districts including Madhesh Province and Karnali.

Last October, I received the 'Earth Impact Hero 2024' award for working on sustainable development by competing among young people across Asia. The prize money was 100,000 dollars. I am also involved in Nepal Industry Confederation Education Council. Facebook also awarded him as one of the young people active in the social sector. Before that, I was also included in the list of influential people under 30 in Asia published by Forbes magazine in 2074. After that, I went to America and China for higher education studies. I left my job in America and returned to Nepal. I went to China to do my master's degree. The relationships made while studying and the honors awarded have created a network around the world . That is what has helped to make the school and raise the budget. I am active myself to raise money .

About 16,500 students from 147 basic schools are connected with UWS. Work is being done on their educational upgradation . We have completed construction of 87 school buildings. We have also been working on educational infrastructure development in those schools for at least 5 years. Along with the construction of the building, UWS has been operating the school in collaboration with the local level and community. The organization takes over the management of the operation of the school . The local levels have assigned a certain time to manage the school.

Volunteer teachers are assigned to those schools . We give the opportunity to teach in those schools for two years by giving a fellowship to the graduated students. Through the school management committee, teachers, principal training, education experts interact with students, teachers and parents . We have a team of 142 people to work in those schools. Experts conduct monthly evaluations of teachers and students . Quality improvement is reviewed semi-annually and annually.

Educational material is also being distributed to underprivileged students. In the middle, children who left school go to their homes and discuss with their parents and bring them back. The educational experts of the institution have been measuring the improvement in mathematics, reading and writing of the students. All these works have been conducted in collaboration with the local government.

Union government may not know us but we have established strong relations with local governments. We don't just build a school building and stop. We have also been helping to provide quality education to students. The government has made a legal arrangement for compulsory education up to class 8. But it has not been implemented. We do not allow any child to drop out of class until they complete class 8 .

In 2015, I got a chance to understand some statistics about the education system of Nepal. At that time, out of 100 children enrolled in class 1, only 32 reached class 8. This fact not only hurt, but also encouraged. In order to change the lives of those children, the institution has been established to create an environment where they can continue studying by removing the compulsion to leave school . The campaign to improve the physical and educational infrastructure of community schools, which started with the decision of the Sankhuwasabha, has now spread across the country. UWS has reached schools in Taplejung, Bhojpur, Gulmi, Tanahun and Humla. The goal is to work with about 100,000 children in 500 to 700 schools by 2030. There is an upcoming program to support the enrollment, retention and teaching of students even in schools that have not built physical infrastructure.

The state is never seen to increase investment for weak schools and students . Most of the education budget is spent on salaries and training. Even now there is no significant improvement in the dropout rate. For education reform, it should start from the basic level and pre-primary level. Pre-primary (ECD) and basic levels should be given maximum investment and priority .

Economy and development are possible only through education . Therefore, we have been working to support the education of the disadvantaged and backward communities. The state has not been able to fully invest in education . Educational and physical infrastructure should be built in the package by allocating 30 percent of the total budget for the transformation of school education. And only it is justified to seek results from education . Why not celebrate the public school reform year like the government celebrated tourism year? School transformation is possible if the state invests enough.

Political interference from educational institutions should be discouraged . Nepal's community is divided by politics the most. Politics is the cause of the deterioration of the country's educational system . The main reason is politics. Improvement of the school is possible only by increasing the morale of the teachers . The government has not given anything to teachers except salary. The school does not have the budget to buy a smart board. administrative expenses in

schools are very low . Educational content is insufficient . There is a situation where the school has to have access to get the budget. If the government is not able to provide enough teachers, it should start the method of teaching through technology . Even the 10 percent budget allocated to the education sector has not been properly utilized. The reform of the education system is not possible from the education minister, but only from the teachers . There are plenty of examples of community schools being led by the principal.

For the educational and physical transformation of the school, UWS Nepal has been gathering grants and support from UK, America, Japan, Qatar, Dubai, China and other countries, multinational companies, wealthy people there. Our main objective is to build school buildings, enroll all children in school, retain those enrolled and provide quality education . Along with education, my friends and I have also invested in the agricultural sector. Since 2018, Dahi has been delivered to the market by operating Delis Dairy. The dairy has employed 70 people in Ilam and Chitwan.
