At least 10 people were killed and around 100 injured in a Russian ballistic missile attack on Friday at a location near Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, where a defense industry-related event was taking place.

According to Ukrainian officials, the attack occurred at a private military training center in Bucha district, about 20–30 kilometers from the center of Kyiv. The incident damaged 27 houses and 44 vehicles.

According to Ruslan Oleynik, acting head of the regional military administration, emergency rescue teams have been deployed to the scene.

This attack took place the day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with a senior representative of the American defense company Raytheon. The company manufactures the ‘Patriot’ air defense system needed by Ukraine.

After the attack, Zelensky stated that the supply of necessary interceptor missiles for the ‘Patriot’ system should be prioritized.

The Ukrainian Defense Industry Council stated that representatives related to the defense industry were present at the event venue during the attack.

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said that an investigation into the incident as a war crime has been launched. He also stated that a separate investigation is underway regarding whether the security arrangements for the event were adequate.

The Ukrainian government has announced a temporary ban on reporting news related to this incident.

Emphasis on Cooperation with Raytheon

On Thursday night, Zelensky met with a Raytheon delegation and discussed joint production of ‘Patriot’ interceptor missiles. According to him, an agreement has been reached to move forward with cooperation between Ukraine and Raytheon on this matter.

For the past few years, Ukraine has been requesting its Western partners to provide additional ‘Patriot’ systems. However, experts say it may still take several years before production begins in Ukraine itself.

Ukrainian Drone Attacks Inside Russia

Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued its long-range drone attacks inside Russia. According to President Zelensky, Ukrainian forces struck a military industry facility in the Kirov region and an oil infrastructure site about 1,350 kilometers from the border.

According to Kirov region governor Alexander Sokolov, six people were killed and 26 injured in the attack on the military factory.

According to Tatyana Kim, founder of Russia’s largest online retail company ‘Wildberries’, the Ukrainian military carried out drone attacks on logistics centers in St. Petersburg, Leningrad region, and Simferopol in occupied Crimea.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 571 Ukrainian drones launched at various regions of Russia on Friday night were shot down.
