A newborn baby has been pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building 32 hours after two powerful earthquakes struck a coastal city in Venezuela.

A video shared on social media on Friday shows rescuers working under floodlights to pull the baby out of the collapsed building. People cheered after rescuers managed to rescue the baby in La Guaira, the worst-hit city north of the capital Caracas, on Friday night.

The video shows rescuers carefully handing the baby from one person to another, wrapping it in a blanket. After removing the baby, they wipe the dusty baby clean with a soft, lint-free cloth.

According to the user who posted the video, Andreana Quintero, the baby was only 18 days old and was unharmed after being trapped in the rubble for 32 hours. The baby's mother was rescued an hour after the baby was rescued.

In another follow-up video on Friday, Quintero showed the mother in a hospital bed, while a health worker said the baby was unharmed.

Health workers believe the mother may have covered the baby with her body or something else. At least 920 people have been killed and thousands more injured or missing since the two 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck on Wednesday.
