Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz as it prepares for the next round of talks with the United States. According to the Iranian media outlet Mehr News Agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the closure of Hormuz on Saturday.

The agreement between Iran and the United States last Wednesday stipulated that the Strait of Hormuz would be kept free and open for a period of 60 days. The 14-point agreement also stipulated that new comprehensive talks would be held within 60 days. The agreement included points such as ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, allowing Iran to sell oil freely during this period, fully lifting sanctions on Iran after the 60-day talks, and committing Iran to suspend its nuclear weapons program.

However, Iran has announced the closure of Hormuz after Israel continued its attacks on Lebanon. Iran has also accused the US and Israel of not implementing the agreement. The IRGC has also warned ships not to proceed through the waterway. The IRGC says that the safety of the ships will be at risk if the warning is not heeded.

Although US President Donald Trump signed the agreement on Wednesday, US ally Israel is not involved in it. That is why Israel claims that its country is not obliged to comply with the points of the agreement. Israel has been saying that it will not withdraw its troops from Lebanon.

Israel carried out a major attack on Lebanon on Friday and Saturday. 16 people were killed in the Israeli attack on Saturday, according to Lebanon's Civil Defense Service. Israel claims that the attack was in response to Hezbollah firing projectiles aimed at Israeli forces.
