Iran has presented a new proposal for talks with the US through mediator Pakistan.

Iran's official news agency (IRNA) said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran submitted the text of the latest proposal for talks with the United States as a mediator on Thursday evening." It was not clear what the new proposal included. The first round of talks between Iran and the US has been held after nearly 40 days of tension and a ceasefire.

The talks have stalled after Iran refused to participate in the talks, citing a US naval blockade of Iranian ports, and after the US pressured Iran to open the main Strait of Hormuz, which it says is largely closed. Only a limited number of ships have been allowed to pass through the waterway since the start of the war.

On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by phone with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Iraq and Azerbaijan to brief them on the Islamic Republic's latest efforts to end the war.
