Amid rising regional tensions over Iran, a White House meeting between Britain's King Charles III and US President Donald Trump has brought the two countries' long-standing partnership back to the forefront. The two leaders openly praised the "special relationship" during a state dinner. However, Trump's public stance on Iran's nuclear program has been controversial.

Trump referred to Iran at the dinner, which was held between a grand reception and formal events, claiming that they had "militaryly defeated a special adversary." He said that King Charles III agreed with his views and reiterated his commitment to never allowing the country to develop nuclear weapons. But there was no sign of direct support from King Charles III on the issue.

Charles did not directly mention Iran or the war in his speech. Instead, he pointed to the need to strengthen the historic partnership between London and Washington. He expressed the view that we need to move forward together to face common challenges in a changing world environment.

He said that the importance of international alliances, especially the role of structures like NATO, is important. Whereas, Trump has been criticizing NATO. Similarly, he said that it is necessary to continue to stand against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The event was attended by famous figures from the technology and business sectors such as Apple's chief Tim Cook, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, and golfer Rory McIlroy.

During the address, both leaders also joked lightly. Trump praised King Charles III's speech to the US Congress, saying that it forced even Democratic lawmakers to stand up. In response, King Charles III made a humorous comment by adding a historical context and raising the context of the rivalry between Britain and France.

Earlier, in an address to Congress, King Charles III reiterated Britain's commitment to democratic values, the rule of law and the principles of checks and balances.

He referenced the Magna Carta, saying it had also influenced the American justice system. The statement was particularly positive from opposition Democrats.

President Trump described Britain as America's closest ally at the welcoming ceremony. He said the relationship between the two countries has remained strong since American independence.

The royal couple is scheduled to visit New York on Wednesday as part of a four-day visit. They are then scheduled to depart for Bermuda.
