The world community has urged the US and Iran to continue talks after talks in Islamabad ended without a conclusion on Sunday to end the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Pakistan, which is mediating the talks, has said that talks are essential to end the war and that it is the duty of the world community to create an environment of trust between the two sides.
‘It is essential for both sides to maintain their commitment to the ceasefire,’ said Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. ‘Pakistan will continue to play its important role in the talks and dialogue between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States in the coming days.’ Anwar Al-Announi, spokesman for the European Union’s foreign affairs department, said that diplomacy is necessary to resolve the ongoing Gulf conflict.
Russia has also shown its willingness to mediate a ceasefire in the coming days. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he is ready to cooperate in mediation efforts to establish peace in West Asia.
“Russian leader Putin has stressed his readiness to mediate in efforts to facilitate a political and diplomatic resolution of the conflict and achieve a just and lasting peace in West Asia,” the Kremlin said in a statement. Britain said it was disappointed that the talks had ended without a conclusion, saying it was disappointed that the two sides had returned.
“The failure to achieve a breakthrough in the talks and the ongoing war in Iran is disappointing. In diplomacy, you are considered a failure until you achieve a breakthrough. Not all talks may end in success, but that does not mean there is no point in continuing the effort.” Australia has also called for more talks.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a statement that “the priority now is to sustain the ceasefire and return to talks.”
