Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said on Friday that Iran had dealt a "shocking blow" to its enemies in its war with the United States and Israel.

Israel accused Tehran of attacking Jerusalem's holy sites after an explosion in the Old City, a few hundred meters from the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Khamenei has not appeared in public since being named as the successor to his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike early in the war. He has issued only written statements.

"Iranians have given the enemy a trick so that they now start using contradictory words and nonsense," Khamenei said in a written message for the Persian New Year, Nowruz.

Khamenei said in his message,  "The enemy has been defeated because of the unity built among our compatriots, despite differences in religious, intellectual, cultural and political origins."
