Twenty-two countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Saturday condemned Iran's attacks on regional commercial vessels and civilian infrastructure amid regional tensions.
Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters spokesman Ibrahim Zolfaghari warned of a possible attack on the United Arab Emirates' Ras al-Khaimah, prompting 22 countries, including the UAE, to express concern over the Iranian warning.
'We have previously declared and proven in practice that we will retaliate against any attack on our territory and national sovereignty,' Zolfaghari said.
Ras al-Khaimah is an industrial port city and the largest city and capital of the United Arab Emirates' Ras al-Khaimah. He said, "We warn the UAE that if Iran repeatedly attacks Abu Musa Island and the Greater Tunb in the Persian Gulf, Iran's powerful military will strike Ras al-Khaimah hard."
The United Arab Emirates, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Denmark, Latvia, Slovenia, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bahrain, Lithuania and Australia have expressed serious concern over the incident. The statement warned that recent developments, including the "de facto closure" of the Strait of Hormuz, pose serious risks to global trade and energy security.
The statement said, "We urge Iran to immediately cease its threats, landmine-laying drone and missile attacks, and other attempts to block the Strait of Hormuz."
Meanwhile, the UAE's Ministry of Defense said its air defenses intercepted three ballistic missiles and eight drones launched from Iran toward its territory on Saturday.
The UAE's air defenses have intercepted 341 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1,748 drones since the attacks began, the ministry said. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing senior military commanders and civilians, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and damaging several infrastructures.
In retaliation, Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli and American military bases and assets in the Middle East. The war has devastated the Middle East, including Iran.
