The US has claimed to have struck nearly 2,000 targets in Iran since the start of its offensive on Saturday. The US Central Command said 17 Iranian vessels, including a submarine, were destroyed in the operation. Admiral Brad Cooper, the head of the Central Command, said in a video message that the operation involved more than 50,000 troops, 200 fighter jets, two aircraft carriers and bombers from the US. He also called it the largest US military deployment in a decade. The admiral said the US and Israel have carried out nearly twice as many airstrikes on Iran as they did in the initial phase of the 2003 Iraq invasion. “We have significantly weakened Iran’s air defenses and destroyed hundreds of Iranian ballistic missiles, launchers and drones,” Cooper said.
