Since Donald Trump began his second term as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025, 585 Nepalis have been deported from the United States. President Trump's strict implementation of the policy of deporting undocumented immigrants from the United States has had an impact on Nepalis as well.

1,365 Nepalis who have been living in the US without documents for years were put on the list to be deported within a year.

The Trump administration has adopted a policy of deporting immigrants who have been living in the US without documents and are found to be involved in criminal activities. The US government has been continuing the deportation policy initiated by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the highest US agency that coordinates and controls the implementation of the US Department of Homeland Security.

The number of Nepalis deported from the US has been increasing every month in the past year. According to ICE data, 6 Nepalis were deported in January 2025, 18 in February, 32 in March, 26 in April, 58 in May, 42 in June, 17 in July, 16 in August, 53 in September, 38 in October, 80 in November, and 98 in December. In January 2026, the highest number of 101 Nepalis were deported at once.

Earlier, during Trump's first term (2017-2021), 425 Nepalis were deported from the US. Of these, 99 were deported in 2017, 44 in 2018, 162 in 2019, 97 in 2020, and 23 in 2021, according to ICE data. During Joe Biden's term (2021-2025), 107 Nepalis were deported for living in the US without documents.

Undocumented immigrants who voluntarily wish to be deported from the US will also receive $2,600 and a free plane ticket. Homeland Security has announced that this plan has been introduced under its previous 'Home for the Holidays' initiative. Homeland Security estimates that it will cost an average of $18,245 to complete the process and deport an undocumented immigrant from the US. Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem said the plan was put forward after the voluntary removals would cost only $5,100, saving money.

She urged, “If they do not choose voluntary removal under this plan, such undocumented immigrants will be arrested and deported so that they will not be allowed to come to the United States in the future.” She said that this work will continue with strictness, noting that ICE operations are currently taking place in the interior of the country. The largest number of undocumented immigrants living in the United States are from Mexico, followed by El Salvador, India, Guatemala, Honduras, China, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Brazil, and Colombia.
