Talks between senior Iranian and American officials have concluded in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
After the talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on state television that he would return to his capital to seek advice on future talks. But he described Friday's talks as a positive start.
Iran had said the talks would be limited to its nuclear program. The United States is demanding that Iran halt its nuclear program and eliminate its stockpile of enriched uranium.
The United States had said the talks should also include Iran's ballistic missiles and Iran's support for armed groups in other regions.
After Friday's talks, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman wrote in a post on the social network X, "This meeting was held under the agreement to continue the talks between the two sides. Both sides have agreed to take the talks forward after consulting their leaders, with their respective perspectives and demands."
