Talks between the war-torn United States and Iran are set to take place in Oman today.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Muscat, the capital of Oman, to participate in the talks, Al Jazeera reported. The US will be represented by US President Donald Trump's advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Middle Eastern countries Qatar, Turkey and Egypt have presented a framework for the main issues to be discussed in the talks. These include a commitment by Iran to significantly limit its uranium enrichment.
Similarly, the issue of banning the use of ballistic missiles and limiting the supply of weapons to Iran's regional allies is also included.
The US has long maintained its position that Iran should back down from developing nuclear weapons. The US has recently taken an aircraft carrier carrying weapons necessary for war in the sea near Iran, saying that it has suppressed the anti-government movement in Iran.
This has raised concerns around the world that there is a risk of war between the two countries. The US and Iran have not had formal diplomatic relations since 1980.
