Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has warned that a US attack on Iran would result in a regional war.
According to Al Jazeera , Khamenei made the warning at an event in Tehran in response to US President Donald Trump's expanding military presence in the Middle East. "If they start a war this time, it will take the form of a regional war," he said.
Khamenei also accused the US of seeking to seize Iran's vast oil and natural gas resources. He also called the recent anti-government protests a "coup" and claimed that they were planned.
"The recent unrest was like a coup, but it was suppressed," he said. According to him, the protesters' aim was to destroy sensitive and influential centers linked to the country's governance, during which police, government offices, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps structures, banks and mosques were attacked.
