The then Dhaka Police Commissioner Habibu Rahman, Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty and Deputy Commissioner Shah Alam Mohammad were sentenced for crimes against humanity during the July 2024 protests.

Five other police officers have been jailed in the case. The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is investigating the cases of the crackdown on the protests in Bangladesh last July.

None of the three accused appeared in court when the death sentence was announced. Their whereabouts are unknown, according to Bangladeshi media.
