Nine people have been killed and several others injured after a private sleeper bus and a truck collided in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka.
The accident took place on Thursday on the highway near Gorlathu village in Hiriyur area of Chitradurga district, about 203 km northwest of Karnataka's capital Bengaluru.
According to police, a truck coming from the opposite direction crossed the road divider and hit the bus. Immediately after the collision, the bus caught fire and within a few minutes the entire bus was engulfed in flames.
The report states that there were a total of 32 people on board the bus, including the driver and co-driver. Such fatal road accidents are common in India due to the dilapidated condition of the roads, overloading and driver negligence.
