Five people have died in a small Mexican Navy plane crash in Mexico, a neighboring country of the United States.

Five of the eight people on board the plane died in the crash on the causeway near Galveston Island, Texas, near the US-Mexico border on Monday afternoon. According to US Coast Guard Petty Officer Luke Baker, the plane was carrying four Navy officers, a child and other civilians.

The US military said that three people were rescued after the crash off the coast of the US state of Texas. “Our team prioritized rescue and we were able to safely rescue four people,” Officer Luke said. “We are saddened by the loss of one person during the rescue.” The Coast Guard has not yet released the identity of the deceased.

Earlier, a commercial jet crashed in North Carolina, USA, on Friday. The Federal Aviation Administration said that seven people, including his family members, died when the jet, flown by retired Captain Greg Biffle, crashed.

The commercial jet crashed while landing at Statesville Regional Airport, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of Charlotte, North Carolina. The aviation authority said the captain, who is qualified to fly single and multi-engine aircraft, was on board with his wife and children.
