A Nepal Pavilion is set to open for the first time in Chongqing, China, to promote Nepali products and tourism. An MoU in this regard was signed between the Chinese and Nepali sides on Friday.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Nepali Consulate General staff, Nepal Tourism Board staff, Chongqing Municipality staff, Yu Chong District staff, and other officials from neighboring Sichuan Province. According to Council Chairman Bhattarai, a Chinese team is planning to visit Nepal in January to collect Nepali products and promote them there. The pavilion opened in Chongqing, which is directly connected by a Himalaya Airlines flight, will display artifacts related to Nepal. Nepali Consul General in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Suresh Raut, expressed his belief that such pavilions would help the Chinese people to support tourism and exports as they do not have much knowledge about Nepali products. He said that China has brought such a proposal to increase mutual cooperation. China has been encouraging this as people-to-people relations can also develop through trade.

According to the Chinese People's Daily Online, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Nepal diplomatic relations and the inauguration of the Nepali National Pavilion were held in Yuchong District, Chongqing Municipality. The online newspaper wrote that this has added a new chapter to the cooperation between the two sides in the fields of economy, trade, culture and tourism.

Saying that Chinese private importers have taken the responsibility of bringing and displaying Nepali goods, Consul General Raut said that the main objective is to promote Nepali products among Chinese consumers. He said that this campaign has been carried out since the opening of the Nepali Consulate General in 2021.

Standing Committee Member of the Yuchong District Committee and District Deputy Mayor Tang Guanghui said that the official unveiling of the Nepal National Pavilion in Yuchong is not only a symbol of friendship between China and Nepal, but also an important milestone in the institutionalization of cooperation between the two sides. He said, "The Nepal Pavilion will serve as an important window to showcase Nepal's culture, tourism and unique products."

Chongqing and Nepal will also build a regular bridge for exchanges and cooperation between southwest China. It will support friends from Nepal and other countries to invest and start businesses, exchange ideas, learn from each other and engage in practical cooperation, and further promote resource complementarity, industrial interaction and people-to-people contacts between the two regions.’

So far, Nepali pavilions have been opened in various places in China, including Chengdu, Kunming, Qingdao. There are 4 Nepali pavilions in Sichuan Province, where the Nepali Consulate General is located. Consul General Raut said that pavilions of different styles have been set up in places where consulates of different countries around the world are located.

Nepali businessmen say that such pavilions have helped to increase Nepal’s exports, expand tourism and inform Chinese consumers about Nepali products.
