A drone attack has hit the United Nations office in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state in Sudan.

The attack on the UN facility killed six peacekeepers, Sudanese officials said. Seven others were wounded.

The Sudanese armed forces have blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Force for the attack. The paramilitary Rapid Support Force has denied the claim.

The drone fired three missiles at the UN headquarters and the Bangladesh Battalion, which set fire to the UN storage facility.

All the casualties were members of the Bangladesh Battalion, which is part of the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei, a disputed territory between Sudan and South Sudan.

Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council has condemned what it described as a drone attack on the UN compound in Kadugli. It is a serious violation of international humanitarian law and the security afforded to UN facilities.
