The death toll from severe flooding and landslides in Indonesia's Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra provinces has reached 811, with 623 people still missing, Indonesia's national disaster management agency said on Wednesday.
According to the agency, 40 tons of relief supplies were received on Tuesday alone, including food, drinking water, medicine and medical supplies. Preparations are underway to send these supplies to the affected settlements.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Erlanga Hartarto said the relief supplies reflect the government's concern for the affected citizens. According to him, the assistance is believed to "meet immediate needs, expedite rescue and relief operations, and provide strength to those engaged in rehabilitation efforts."
President Prabowo Subianto also said that addressing the needs of the affected people immediately, accelerating socio-economic recovery, and repairing and rebuilding damaged infrastructure are the government's top priorities.
