Forty-two Indians died in a road accident in Saudi Arabia on Monday midnight.

Indian media reported that 42 people were killed when a bus carrying Muslim pilgrims from Mecca to Medina collided with a diesel tanker.

Among the dead were 20 women and 11 children. According to Indian media, only the bus driver survived the accident.

Most of the dead were from Hyderabad. The accident took place near Muhras, 160 km from Medina, at around 1:30 am Indian time. All the passengers were sleeping at the time and no one was injured in the accident.

The Telangana government said it was in touch with the Indian embassy in Riyadh. The state government issued a notification saying that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had directed officials in Delhi to stay in touch with the embassy and help identify the victims.

The Indian embassy in Jeddah has also launched a helpline. The embassy said, "In view of the bus accident involving Indian Umrah pilgrims near Medina, Saudi Arabia, the Indian Consulate General in Jeddah has set up a 24-hour control room and the helpline number is 8002440003."

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has also set up a control room at the secretariat to get information about the family. It has been said that the family members of the victims can contact 79979-59754 and 99129-19545.
