Cameroonian President Paul Biya has been sworn in for his eighth term at the age of 92. He is the world's oldest head of state.

He was first elected president in 1982. He has been elected president in every election since then. The results of the October 12 election were announced on October 27. According to them, Biya won 53.66 percent of the vote, while his closest rival, Issa Chiroma Bakari, got 35.19 percent of the vote.

Swearing in for the eighth time after being elected, Biya expressed his condolences to the victims of the recent protests. He also said that this situation was caused by some irresponsible politicians. “I want to assure you that the rules will be restored,” he said. He also thanked the electoral commission for conducting a fair election. Opposition candidate Bakari has accused election officials of rigging his victory. After the results were announced, protests broke out across the country, killing 14 people and arresting more than 1,200. The death toll had reached 48 as of Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing sources close to the United Nations. "Most of the victims died from gunshot wounds. Some were brutally flogged and beaten to death," Reuters wrote.
